Since my return from Mexico, I have found my interest and patience with the American lifestyle is quickly waning. In a culture of excess, I find myself smothered. Unable to operate, unable to breathe, and constantly struggling with a conscience that doesn't let me be at night. I spend more time scoping out potential places for my hammock than studying for my courses, and I know that I cannot continue this way. I must force myself back into the swing of things. I must graduate next year, and prepare for law school. I must move on, but my mind is still in Mexico. There is so much more I wanted to do, so much more I wanted to see.
The struggle of the Zapatistas is a unique and trying condition to live under. As far as modern living goes, they have next to nothing. As far as technology goes, they have next to nothing. As far as state granted rights go, they have next to nothing. BUT, as far as hospitality goes, they have everything. As far as genuine concern for mankind, they have everything. As far as a sense of community goes and international solidarity goes, they have everything. As far as a true sense of democracy and an honest and actual implementation of it goes, they have everything. I long to live the honest, hardworking, and respectable life of the Zapatista. The rest of the world can only learn from them. I may upload pictures from the trip, because the Zapatistas themselves are artists in their own rights, but otherwise these pictures can be seen on facebook.
If anyone who reads this is interested in finding their own experience in a Zapatista community, or interested in helping out in other ways, please contact Peter Brown from Schools for Chiapas. The website is [link]. Check it out.

Bunny! In the depths of your heart,
Lies who you truly are.
In the soul of your mind,
The hurt you left behind...

"He takes your face and positions it to take your mouth
You bite, you bite to excite yourself
He wants the colour of you to wear and feel alive
And you bite and I'm awake and I'm the slave tonight..."
